ROUX-EN-Y GASTRIC BYPASS

During ROUX-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, a large part of the stomach, and a portion of the small intestine is inactivated. This prevents the absorption of certain nutrients that are consumed, which helps maintain weight loss.

Gastric bypass surgery is one of the most common obesity operations in the world. This method of surgical treatment which can be very effective, especially in the group of patients with morbid obesity (i.e In overweight patients), is based on idea of reducing the stomach and limiting food intake to ensure weight loss. Although gastric bypass surgery is a very important operation in the treatment of obesity, patients should be aware that they need to change their lifestyle and follow the advice of their doctors.

Like all other obesity surgeries, gastric bypass surgery is applied to obese patients who can not lose weight through exercise and diet. This method of treatment can be applied to patients whose BMI (body mass index) is higher than 35 kg / m2 and who can not lose weight.

In the course of the gastric bypass surgery, special tools and cameras are used which make it possible not to make a larger incision in the patient's abdominal area. A small stomach is created in the stomach, called " the ideal gastric pouch. " The normal volume of the stomach is 800-1000 cubic centimeters, while the newly formed size of the stomach has a volume of 35-50 cubic centimeters. The volume of the stomach decreases by approximately 95%; in the new state, saturation is reached faster. The majority of the stomach after the operation is now passive and does not encounter with food.

To connect the newly formed intestinal sac with the intestine, the small intestine is cut at a distance of 50-75 cm and connected to the gastric sac. After this process, part of the small intestine is inactivated, like most of the stomach. This will prevent the absorption of certain nutrients and help maintain weight loss.

After this operation, the patient is quickly saturated with a rather small portion of food.(After this surgery, the patient will now have the feeling of saturation with a rather small portion of food.) To achieve a successful outcome of a gastric bypass surgery, it is necessary to perform exercises and strictly avoid sugar intake. Since sugary foods cause dumping syndrome in a patient, the new structure of the stomach is deformed and causes weight gain. For this reason, it is very important that patients give up their old habits and begin to lead a healthy lifestyle.
